Called ‘One’s own abode’, स्वाधिष्ठान/svadhisthana is the sacral chakra, associated with the unconscious and with emotion. It has six petals which match the vrittis of affection, pitilessness, feeling of all-destructiveness, delusion, disdain and suspicion. Svadhisthana is where the different samskaras (potential karmas), lie dormant — and it contains our unconscious desires.
Classically, this chakra is the center of sexuality, emotions, sensation, pleasure, movement, and nurturance. Like water, it is ruled by the Moon, which influences the tides and our emotions.
The Sanskrit name for the second chakra is Svadhisthana, which means “sweetness.”
